Winter Solstice

Today is the winter solstice — the first day of winter!

We welcomed winter in dramatic fashion this year, with a full lunar eclipse.

And no, I didn’t get up to watch it. It happened around 3am.

But I am excited to see the days begin to get longer again, and excited that Christmas is only four days away!

Although some believe that Christ was actually born on December 25, it is more likely that the date was chosen to coincide with the winter solstice, since the Romans celebrated it on December 25 at the time.

It really doesn’t matter whether it’s Jesus’ actual birthday or not. We are excited to celebrate our Savior’s  first coming to earth, and look forward to when he will come again.
